Our Mission:
Established in 1995, the mission of the Leech Lake Area Watershed Foundation is to fund, promote, and enable activities that will protect the natural environment of the Leech Lake Watershed, with all its beauty and diversity of natural resources, for the use and enjoyment of future generations.

About the Leech Lake Watershed:
The Leech Lake Watershed is 750,000+ acres located primarily in Cass County along with small portions of Beltrami and Hubbard counties. Within the watershed are 273 lakes comprising 163,000 acres, including half of Minnesota's natural reproducing Muskie lakes. Leech Lake, the largest lake in the watershed, is 111,527 acres. There are 120 miles of streams; approximately 70,000 acres of wetlands; thousands of acres of national and state forest; hundreds of miles of recreational trails; many bald eagle, loon, and osprey nesting areas; and rare plant, bird, and animal habitats. Approximately one-third of the land in the watershed is in public ownership.

The Leech Lake Area Watershed contains natural resources that provide millions of hours of outdoor recreation and sustain an economy based on tourism, timber harvesting and agriculture. Outdoor recreation and scenic beauty are a prime attraction to the area and a major contributor to the watershed's economy.
